Community Involvement.
WCKindy fosters a sense of community through creating and maintaining positive relationships with local services within the community.
We understand community is paramount in fostering children’s sense of belonging and security, unique identity, and active participation in the world around them.
Incursions
We regularly welcome a variety of community professionals and organisations into our centre to provide engaging and educational incursions for the children. These experiences enrich our learning program and offer hands-on opportunities for children to explore new ideas in a familiar and supportive environment.
Incursions such as Tiny Tins Recycling promote sustainability and environmental awareness, while services like STEPS Vision Screening support children’s health and wellbeing. Educational performances and workshops including the Energetic Minds Child Protection Show and Annie and the Waves (NSW Surf Life Saving) teach important concepts such as personal safety, protective behaviours, and water safety in fun, age-appropriate ways.
Through these meaningful experiences, children build confidence, expand their knowledge, and connect with the wider community, all within the safety and comfort of their early learning environment.
Excursions
At Wollongong Cottage Kindergarten, we value strong connections within our local community. Our children enjoy regular excursions to nearby libraries, parks, and cafés, providing meaningful real-world learning experiences beyond the classroom.
Visits to the library support early literacy development through Story Time sessions, book exploration, and an introduction to community resources. Outings to local parks encourage physical activity, risk-taking, and an appreciation for the natural environment. Occasional visits to local cafés for a babycino help children build confidence, practice social skills, and develop an understanding of community spaces and routines.
These experiences foster independence, road safety awareness, and a sense of belonging within our wider community, enriching our learning program in authentic and engaging ways.
Charity Involvement.
Wollongong Cottage Kindergarten actively engages in charity drives each year such as Pyjama Week, Red Nose Day, The World’s Greatest Shave, Genes for Jeans Day, and Superhero Week to raise money and help create change in our community.
In 2025 we ran our very own book drive to raise money as a follow on from book week all money raised was donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
